There have been a number of designs for the Gimbal, the final version should be up soon. I was hoping to design a Gimbal that coud be used with a Manfrotto MonoPod or a 20mm carbon rod, the final version has a larger pole than is needed for DSLR's but will be capable of carrying larger HD camera's. While the traditional ergonomic single purpose gimbal fork is a more elegant solution, other options have their own benefits. Some more tricky to machine, it would be nice to have 3D Metal printer, but the price & the wait may mean it's a dream that will come a little too late. It would also no doubt require alternate design ideas, to get the benefit of the 3D print process. It would be great if the new generation of 3D Metal Laser Printers could do away with the need for Casting & CNC & Finishing processes, and all the separate equipment needed for each part.
Deciding on Finishes... Black n Red or Red n Black?
While I like the Aluminum Arm in reality it will be best to go with Black Anodized for a number of reasons the main one being reflections. I've Been researching DIY Anodizing methods, more equipment & space would be needed though, seems simple enough though will have to test on smaller parts to see if a quality finish is possible.
I have found a great machine shop to produce what's needed, with a far better CNC Machine than would fit in my workshop I am still keen to get my hands on a smaller machine for prototype & one off designs, additional 3D printing machines, cutters, & routing machines.
One of many configuration of the Gimbal, the clamp here will be replaced with a Quick Release Lever.
Many
of the images on the site where produced without full texture
assignment, for illustration purposes only, ie not photo quality, once design
is finalized I can then play more with the setups and final renders of
the designs, so if you see a shoddy looking render which makes the
product look unfinished, it probably was, but attention to precision
& detail is what I really enjoy, hopefully that will show in the
final product.
